PRODUCTION RENTAL RATES

Production Rentals are available to individuals involved in a production and to those costuming a full production. We encourage the latter to schedule an appointment to review the productions' needs. Fittings for large productions are limited to three performers at a time and need to be scheduled in advance in efforts to properly manage Hale's resources for our productions. Off-site fittings will require payment of the 22% cleaning fee for each item removed from the shop.

For Non-profits and schools:
The rental rate covers the first week.

The second additional week is:
50% of the rental rate.

The third week and all additional weeks after are:
25% of the rental rate.

Shipping rates will be covered by the renter. We will make our best effort to send an estimate for the rentals approval before shipping.

For profit theaters:
The rental cost covers the first week. All additional weeks will be 50% of the first weeks cost.

DESIGN/RESTOCKING FEES

Production appointments are limited to 2 hours. If a production appointment goes beyond that length of time there will be a fee of 10% of their initial rental cost applied to their final invoice.

If a production takes 12 or more costumes off property that they do not use in their production, they will be required to pay for 50% of the cost of the rental in lieu of the cleaning fee.

Schools and non-profits will be charged $100 if we pull more than 12 costumes and they choose not to rent anything from Hale Center Theater Archive.

For Profit theaters must pay $200 deposit for Hale Center Theater Archive to start pulling costumes. This will be subtracted from your rental cost.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE FEE

Our costumers take care of all cleaning for you! We ask that you do not do any laundering processes on our costumes. A fee of 22% of the initial rental price will be applied for the cleaning and maintenance of all items.

Strict adherence to cleaning and maintenance instruction is mandatory. Replacement or distress fees will be assessed for any costume piece that has been damaged due to incorrect cleaning procedures. It is highly recommended that dress shields be used in the garments, and that make-up is not applied too low on the performers neck. We also encourage use of costume pieces to be limited to indoors to avoid the potential damage from mud and plant-life.

PRODUCTION REPAIRS

All items are expected to be in good condition upon return. If a production deems an alteration necessary for the safety of their performer, please contact an Archive representative for permission before the alteration is made. Any alteration made to a costume piece is expected to be removed before its return. If it is not removed there will be a $20 dollar charge per alteration left in.

Repair Guidelines:

• Please use basting (long) or whip stitches, and refrain from small, tight stitches that are difficult to remove and more prone to cause damage

• DO NOT use safety pins to alter or repair a piece, it only worsens the tear and causes a safety risk to the performer

• NEVER use tape on the garments

DISTRESS

Fees will be imposed for all distressed costumes. These fees will be determined on a per-item basis and can be up to 100% of the rental list price. If an irreparable distress is present, a replacement fee will be applied. Any fees assessed for distress will be applied to the credit card on file. Distress is defined as, but not limited to:

• Any costume with exposure to smoke of any kind

• Any tear in the garment longer than 1/2" or any tear against the grain of the fabric

• Any garment that is stained or requires additional cleaning procedures

• Any alterations not previously approved by Archive management

• Missing buttons or closures

• Any item with adhesives or adhesive residue

• Any distress due to pinning of the garment

• Any distress due to improper shipping methods

LATE FEES

Any item not returned by the contracted return date is subject to a late fee. A fee of 100% of the costume rental list price per costume piece may be assessed for each day the rental is late up to 2 weeks. At the end of the 2-week late period, an additional replacement fee will be imposed. These will be charged to the credit card on file.

Permanent suspension of rental privileges may result for any account that has items not returned after the 2-week late period.

REPLACEMENT FEES

Replacement fees can be 5-8 times the rental list price. Replacement fees will be charged to the credit card on file. Replacement fees may be assessed for the following conditions:

• Items not returned within the 3-week late period

• Any permanent alterations to a garment

• Any irreparable distress or damage to a garment

VINTAGE GARMENTS

Due to the irreplaceable nature of Archive's vintage garments, the replacement fee for any garment from the 1960s or earlier will be 10 times the rental list price and distress fees can be up to 200% of the rental list price. Please keep in mind that older garments tend to be more fragile and assessment of distress or replacement fees is stringent. Vintage garments are only available for professional productions.
